The Portuguese National Assembly (Parliament) will begin to debate a new National Railway Plan beginning in April.
We have sent the email below to the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Pedro Nuno Santos, the Secretary of State for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities Ana Sofia Tunes, the Secretary of State for Infrastructure Jorge Delgado. We also sent a more personalized version to our M.P. Maria Joaquina Matos, former Lagos Mayor.

I am writing to you regarding the discussion of the National Railway Plan to begin in the assembly in April. I believe it is of great importance to make all trains in Portugal accessible to people with reduced mobility. Currently none of the regional trains in Portugal are accessible to people using wheelchairs or mobility scooters. A simple and relatively low cost solution is to have a ramp on board each train sufficient in strength to allow people and their mobility devices to enter and exit the trains. Can you please assure me that this urgent issue will be included in the discussion? I look forward to your response. Thank you.

Estou escrevendo a respeito da discussão do Plano Ferroviário Nacional que começará em assembléia em abril. Considero de grande importância tornar todos os comboios em Portugal acessíveis a pessoas com mobilidade reduzida. Actualmente, nenhum dos comboios regionais em Portugal é acessível a pessoas em cadeiras de rodas ou scooters. Uma solução simples e de custo relativamente baixo é ter uma rampa a bordo de cada comboio resistência suficiente para permitir que as pessoas e seus dispositivos de mobilidade entrem e saiam dos comboios.
