The Cultural Center of Lagos is a great example of Inclusion for everyone.
The Cultural Center of Lagos is a gem located in the historic center of Lagos.
The center has a theatre for live performances that range from jazz and classical orchestras, Fado, live drama, comedies, modern dance and more. It has an art gallery with rotating exhibits and a really nice café as well as other spaces for educational exhibits.
Best of all it is accessible to people with reduced mobility. Wheelchair users can easily reserve special seating for performances, just ask when making your booking. The art exhibits and the café are very easily accessible. There is an also an accessible bathroom. The employees at the Cultural Center are always very helpful if you need any assistance and there is a elevator that can fit a wheelchair fairly comfortably.
Constance and I have attended many great performances there including the April 25 Zeca Afonso celebrations, the Algarve Jazz Orchestra and Christmas concerts.
If you go to a show or if you’re just passing by, you can pop in and check out the latest art exhibit that features different artists and themes. You can get around the exhibit space very easily using a wheelchair or mobility scooter and then wheel right over to the café for a galão, a glass of wine and a toastie.
There are also some wonderful shows as part of summer concerts on the courtyard series. We attended a performance of Fado de Coimbra under the stars.
Lagos can be very proud of the center for the quality and variety of cultural opportunities it provides to all of its residents and visitors.
